The 5-Hour Workout!

Yes, you read it correctly - the 5-hour workout! And let me tell you, by the time it was all over, I was dead to the world. In fact, I'm writing this the day after (May 4) because I fell asleep last night at 9pm from sheer exhaustion.

Why was I so beat? Well it all began with a 7am wake-up (on a Sunday) to take my dogs, Jax and Laila, for a walk. I then had a soccer game, which actually turned into an intense 2-hour training session because the other team cancelled. To boot, it was a sunny morning and I think I may have taken in too much vitamin D, if you know what I mean.

So after, this morning soccer session, I then raced over to Fits Toronto to shoot 2 hours of workout videos for the new Fitter U Fitness program with my good friend, and fitness buff, Sam. We recorded 8 different full body workout videos and although we had a fun time, we also had to rush as soon as we finished to another soccer game that we had at night.

The evening's soccer game was a playoff game for our indoor season which was coming to an end. We went undefeated in the league but needed to win the playoffs to win the whole thing. We won 3-1 - no problems!

So I got home at about 8pm and all I wanted to do besides replenish my body with plenty of nourishing calories was lay on the couch.

But I took it one step further and went to bed to lay down. And as you can imagine, it wasn't long before I was long gone into dreamland.

So the moral of this non-stop day is that our bodies need to rest and recover. In fact, the repair process is one of the most important elements of any fitness program. Without it, you break down, get weaker, feel more tired, and are more suscetible to illnesses and injuries!

Needless to say, I slept for about 10 hours and woke up this morning feeling a bit better. I went for a walk to get my muscles moving and to prepare my body for the day ahead. I think I'll be hitting the gym just after lunch today and will be doing a legs and back workout. Stay tuned!
